The passing of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia is a tremendous blow to the cause of constitutional conservatism in our country. Few people of such intellect and conviction ever bless us with the gift of their service to America. George Washington, at the very foundation of our republic, held-up the Constitution as a safeguard for our God-given liberties in times of chaos and confusion. For his entire career Antonin Scalia did the same; he called us to uphold the Constitution as the charter of Liberty.
It is now incumbent upon lovers of liberty who remain behind to carry on the work to which Antonin Scalia applied his life: defending the Constitution. This defense must now begin by denying Barack Obama a third liberal appointment to the high court. Conservatives must call upon the U.S. Senate to prevent President Obama from putting another Kagan or Sotomayor -style secular progressive on the Supreme Court, thus shifting it even further to the left.
If President Obama gets a third confirmation to the Court, it will ensure that a liberal majority will control the court, which will trample the Constitution. The progress states have made in protecting unborn babies, rolling back Obamacare, and resisting the overreaches of agencies like the EPA will be jeopardized. This must not be allowed to happen if we hope to retain free and limited government in America.
It is most certainly a time to honor the life and work of Antonin Scalia and reflect on his wonderful contributions to America. It is also a time to remember him best by defending what he loved the most: the Constitution of the United States of America. We must start by ensuring that the next associate justice of the United States Supreme Court is appointed by the next president, instead of another liberal lawyer being nominated by President Obama.
Praying that the Senate will say no to whoever he nominated, the will be the most liberal for sure.
