Did the Bust of the Baby Boom Lead to the Bust of the American Economy?

Josh Kimbrell September 28, 2011 2 min read

Following World War II, the United States experienced a surge in the number of children born to American families, known as the Baby Boom. The end of the War, coupled with a roaring peacetime economy, led to significant population growth due to childbirth. Such a surge in population, a trend that was maintained for several decades until the radicalism of the 1960s led to a rise in abortion-on-demand, enabled America to consistently experience economic (GDP) growth upward of 4% annually; however, this propensity toward prosperity would suffer a mortal blow with the tragic decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade in 1973.

The collapse of the Baby Boom is the single biggest factor in the economic bust America is now experiencing. A new report published by MarriResearch, an economics research group at the Family Research Council, analyzes the connection between America’s economic success and our birthrate. The results are startling: the Baby Boom generation is aging, while the generation moving up to “replace” it is too small to maintain America’s economic predominance. Since the population surge following World War II left America with a much larger post-war population, the number of pregnancies certainly didn’t decrease following the Baby Boom. The only plausible explanation for the size inadequacy of the rising generations is the holocaust of abortion.

Even conservative estimates indicate that America has lost 57 million children to legalized abortion since the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe in 1973. Such a staggering loss of life is a blow to this nation’s economy, from which we may never fully recover. Economists are in near unanimous consent that America’s GDP growth in the coming decades will be considerably slower than during the Baby Boom decades. Without children there is no future. America’s addition to self-indulgence, at the cost of millions of young lives, has hampered our economic output and is afflicting our great nation. The only hope of reversing this damning trend is to pass a Federal Constitutional Amendment which will outlaw abortion in this nation. We cannot continue to kill innocent children and expect to be economically blessed. We must protect life, if the liberty and opportunity to pursue happiness of all Americans is to be preserved.

May God forgive America, and may He heal our land.
